End of School Year Celebration

 

A friend asked for a couple dozen cookies for an end of the school year celebration she is planning.  

 

 

 

Books for Baby

 

The invitation for great-niece Kaley's baby shower was the inspiration for her cookies.  I edited the art work to remove the time and place, then added "Oh, Boy!" as a book title.  

 Large cookies were packaged for favors for the guests with a tag that said, "Thank you for starting the next chapter with us."

 

In addition, mini cookies were prepared for the dessert table at the brunch.

 Finally, some Halloween designs were included for the children at the party.

Kaley's College Graduation

Today is the day we celebrate Kaley's graduation from Illinois State University.

Kaley was an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and served as President for two semesters, so I departed from the bold colors used in this collection to include ZTA's colors on a few cookies.

Since teaching is Kaley's chosen profession, her collection included various designs to honor her new career.

As I baked and decorated this set of cookies, I realized that Kaley and I have a few things in common.  By the age of twenty-one we both graduated from college, had full time teaching positions, and were enrolled in graduate school.  Hopefully, Kaley will find her career as rewarding as I did during my thirty-six years in the classroom.

No doubt about it, Kaley earns high marks from me.

Hats Off to Logan

HATS OFF to my great-nephew, Logan, as he celebrates his high school graduation.

HATS OFF to Logan, my hero, for facing the medical challenges he encountered during high school with grace, dignity, and humor.  He showed maturity beyond his years and opted to attend classes even when he wasn't feeling his best.

 HATS OFF to Logan, for winning the, You Make A Difference, award so many times that I have lost count.

Maddy's Graduation

My great-niece, Maddie, is graduating from 8th grade this week.  Since Maddie LOVES to read, her Mom suggested a "book" theme for her cookies.











This is a book cookie that I have made for each of the nieces and nephews as they have entered high school.

 I also added Sugarbelle's, bookworm and Lilaloa's, stack of books to the set.  In addition to the traditional subjects, I added a few titles that I thought Maddie would enjoy, including:

High School Handbook

Student Success

Future Careers

Family Photos (because her Grandma Carol, takes lots of pictures)

 . . . and "How to Raise Chickens" because Maddie's family has a new hobby

I didn't want the cookies to be too "cutesy" so I added the school mascot to the set.  My royal icing version is a bit creepier than the school art work, but he adds an interesting twist to the collection.

For my cookie friends, the pirate is a Frankenstein cutter, batteries removed and a small paisley cutter added for the bandana.  A football or Easter egg cutter would probably have been a better shape for the head, but I wanted to have the ears and the earrings on the design.
