Halloween Treats for Avery

 

Last spring while attending cousin Leann's soccer game, Avery proudly displayed the blisters and callouses that she earned while climbing the monkey bars!  She then said, "I want you to make cookies of my hands."   So, Halloween seemed like the right time to make these designs.

In addition, I added a few K-pop cookies to her trick-or-treat bag.  Since I knew nothing about this global phenomenon, I spent some time reading online and then hand cut the designs rather than purchasing more cookie cutters.   

Avery always joins Grandpa Bill to distribute candy on Halloween night, she switched out her pink wig for a clown mask to match the Halloween decorations in the yard! 

 

 

 

Books for Baby

 

The invitation for great-niece Kaley's baby shower was the inspiration for her cookies.  I edited the art work to remove the time and place, then added "Oh, Boy!" as a book title.  

 Large cookies were packaged for favors for the guests with a tag that said, "Thank you for starting the next chapter with us."

 

In addition, mini cookies were prepared for the dessert table at the brunch.

 Finally, some Halloween designs were included for the children at the party.

My Favorite Little Monsters

Halloween offers so many different options for imaginative cookie designs and bright colors, but I just love these little monsters.  I haven't made Halloween cookies since 2019 due to Covid and changes in the annual bake sale date. In addition, do the kids need cookies when they have so much candy?

 However, since great niece Mary Grace has been away at college for 3 months, I decided it was time to send her a taste of home. She might be on sugar overload because Grandma is sending her cookies, too! 

Fall Is In The Air

The crisp, colorful days of fall have arrived and so has the annual bake sale.

Simple pumpkins and fall leaves gave me the opportunity to continue practicing with my air gun.  It still causes anxiety every time I pull it out, but I hope to master the use of it someday.

Mike at Semisweet Designs sent me a free cutter when he first opened his shop, so I decided to pull it out of the box and use it this year.  I think this ghost is a cutie, but that pumpkin face needs work!

Halloween is one of my favorite cookie seasons.

An annual favorite, Frank, met some new friends this year.

Halloween

Although Halloween cookies are some of my favorites I haven't made any since 2014.  Life events kept me busy and do the kids really need cookies when they have a treat bag full of candy?

It was fun to return to my fall favorites and add a few new ones inspired by the amazing cookie decorators who share their designs  online.

Turn the cutter upside down and a vampire becomes a pirate.

The cutter I used to make sunflowers last year became kid friendly monsters.

Halloween offers so many fun designs . . .  spooky, funny, and traditional.

My favorite Halloween design year after year has been the witch hat, but this year I had fun hand cutting the legs that were inspired by a sun catcher I found in the $1.00 bin at the fabric store.

Halloween 2013

I always have fun making Halloween cookies and every year I try to do some new and different designs.

LilaLoa's  car cookie has been so much fun since I first attempted it in August, that I knew I wanted to create a Halloween design using her tutorial.  Then when SugarBelle introduced her school bus cutter, I decided to try a front and back view of a car.  I trimmed the top of the bus so that it would look more like a vintage car.




Last summer I found these cutters on sale and although they are much larger than the cookies I usually make, "cookie cutter" + "70% off" was too good to pass up.  I used one to make treats for Mary Grace's birthday party, but I wasn't sure if I'd ever find another use for them until Ali Bee posted a design for a ghost and a vampire.

Since I purchased an extra set of cutters for my cookie friend, Donna's, birthday, I knew I had to try these designs.  I really like Dracula, but I think my ghost looks like the Michelin man dressed up for Halloween.  





                       Trick or Treat!

Linda Excels

 Twenty-eight years ago, I met Linda at a luncheon for teachers who were new to the school district.  What were the chances that in a 6 high school district, I would sit next to a person who would be working at the same school and in the same division?

As Chicagoans, we car pooled to the 'burbs during our first year of employment.  We became good friends and have shared lots of laughter and a few tears over the years.

I was so excited to learn that this very, worthy teacher has been selected to receive the Award of Merit from the Illinois State Board of Education.

While baking Halloween cookies, I decided to make a few special cookies for Linda and one of my "cookie cards", a home made card illustrated with pictures of the cookies.


Linda's collection will include a few cookies in honor of, ¡Hoy es Viernes!  A tradition in Linda's Advanced Placement Spanish Class,  that evolved from a weekly greeting, to brightly colored t-shirts, to a classroom bulletin board  featuring the t-shirts being worn in locations all over the world.
